Situated on Lynnhaven Bay on Virginia's east coast, this grand 15,500+ square foot timber framed structure features expansive water views. The Structures Group performed the structural engineering for the residence, the pool, and the driveway bridge.
The presence of poor soils presented a particular challenge in the project design. TSG engineers addressed the soil conditions by utilizing the installation of piles, pile caps, and grade beams in the design of the main residence, the detached bungalow, and the in ground swimming pool. Structural steel and bar joists provided for large open areas in the basement of the main residence as well as a 40 foot tall chimney above the basement theatre. Special fabricated timber strand material was utilized in the construction of the 20' tall great room stud walls to provide resistance to coastal winds of up to 110 mph.
